Having laboured to a single-goal win over Hertha BSC the week before FC Bayern München were pitted in the late Saturday afternoon Spitzenspiel against third-placed Bayer Leverkusen, and once again claimed all three points with relative ease – though there was more than the odd scare to keep Pep Guardiola’s side on their toes. Hertha BSC v FCB
After the defeat in midweek against Manchester City – their first since the pre-season Super Cup in August – FC Bayern returned to Bundesliga action where next year’s Champions’ League final will be held – the Olympiastadion in Berlin. Although struggling for form in the bottom half of the table, home side Hertha BSC would offer enough resistance to ensure that Pep Guardiola’s side returned to Munich knowing that their three points had been hard-fought and well-earned. Continue reading Hertha BSC v FCB
Manchester City v FCB
More than twenty Red Dragons made their way from London and beyond to Manchester’s Etihad Stadium for week five of the Champions’ league group stage, as Bayern looked to maintain their hundred percent record in this year’s competition. It was a game of dramatic twists and turns that would see the visiting Bayern fans shocked after twenty minutes, ecstatic at half-time and left simply speechless at the end. FCB v TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
After a frustrating week that had started with the injury to skipper Philipp Lahm, things would end on a bright note for FC Bayern against high-flying TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, with Bastian Schweinsteiger coming off the bench to warm the soul of every fan of Die Roten everywhere. It would be yet another comfortable victory, and one that would once again belie the rapidly increasing injury problems plaguing coach Pep Guardiola. Continue reading FCB v TSG 1899 Hoffenheim
Eintracht Frankfurt v FCB
Having secured their place in the knockout stages of the Champions’ League with a ruthlessly efficient 2-0 win over AS Roma in midweek, FC Bayern returned to domestic action with a journey up to Frankfurt to take on mid-table Eintracht. Despite a little team-tweaking from coach Pep Guardiola with Thomas Müller returning for the injured David Alaba and Danté coming in for Medhi Benatia – there was little scope for extensive changes due to the growing injury list. FCB v AS Roma
The meeting with AS Roma at the Allianz Arena was never going to be as spectacular as the record-breaking 7-1 triumph two weeks earlier at the Stadio Olimpico, but FC Bayern would book their place in the knockout stages two weeks early with a calm and measured performance that would only emphasise the gulf in class between the two teams. On a damp night in Munich, Bayern wouldn’t really need to go further than second gear to dispose of a solid but insipid Roma side. Continue reading FCB v AS Roma
FCB v Borussia Dortmund
Week ten of the Bundesliga season saw FC Bayern entertain Borussia Dortmund in the latest instalment of Der Klassiker – but one that had a slightly different pre-match flavour from what we had become used to in recent seasons. Usually a top of the table clash, this season’s encounter at the Allianz Arena would pit the high-flying Bavarians against a Dortmund side struggling for form near the the foot of the table. Continue reading FCB v Borussia Dortmund
Hamburger SV v FCB
Having been held to a goalless draw by Hamburger SV at the Imtech Arena a month earlier in the Bundesliga, FC Bayern would not allow history to repeat itself in the second round of the DFB-Pokal – with a comfortable victory over Josef Zinnbauer’s struggling side securing a third round meeting with second division Eintracht Braunschweig. Continue reading Hamburger SV v FCB
Borussia Mönchengladbach v FCB
The top of the table clash between FC Bayern and Borussia Mönchengladbach would prove to be just that – with both sides slugging it out but unable to provide a knockout blow in ninety minutes of pulsating football. This was a game that proved that a 0-0 stalemate can be exciting, and in a well-balanced encounter a draw was arguably the right result. Continue reading Borussia Mönchengladbach v FCB
AS Roma v FCB
FC Bayern would head to Rome for what would be billed as arguably the toughest match of the season so far, against an AS Roma side that had won its last five matches at the Stadio Olimpico. The visiting fans would be ecstatic when Arjen Robben netted the opener inside the first ten minutes, but this would only be the start as Die Roten swept everything before them. The visiting Red Dragons had expected a tightly-contested gladitorial contest, but would witness a bloody slaughter in what was another glorious evening for the men from Munich.
